Dental fillings in Lutsk: what they are and when they are needed

A dental filling replaces tooth tissue lost to decay or damage and seals the tooth against further damage. In Lutsk most fillings are made of tooth-coloured composite that is hardened with a curing light, in layers, and matched to the shade of your tooth. A filling is needed when decay has formed a cavity, when an old filling is broken or leaking, or when a tooth has chipped. Whether you need one is decided at examination, and the estimate should show what is included: examination, anaesthesia, X-rays where needed, and the filling itself.

When should I see a dentist urgently?

  • A filling has fallen out and the tooth hurts or has a sharp edge
  • Pain that lingers after hot or cold, or wakes you at night
  • Swelling near the tooth or fever
  • A tooth has broken after an injury

What a filling restores

Decay removes tooth tissue and leaves a cavity that food and bacteria can enter. After the dentist removes the damaged tissue, the filling rebuilds the shape of the tooth, restores its chewing surface and closes the cavity. It also protects the tooth from the sensitivity and further decay that an open cavity would bring.

Fillings are also used to repair small chips, worn edges and old fillings that have broken or leak. A filling mainly replaces lost tissue. When a larger part of the tooth must be rebuilt, the dentist may call it a restoration — see “Chipped-tooth repair” for what happens when a tooth chips or breaks.

Composite fillings and colour matching

Composite and white fillings

“White”, “tooth-coloured” and “light-cured” fillings usually refer to composite resin. It is placed in thin layers and each layer is hardened with a blue curing light, which lets the dentist shape the tooth gradually and finish it at the same appointment.

Matching the shade

The shade is usually chosen at the start, before the tooth dries out, by comparing a shade guide with the tooth in good light. Shade matching is easier on a clean tooth, and it can be less exact for very large restorations or heavily stained teeth.

What happens during an appointment

The visit usually follows these steps: examination and, if needed, an X-ray; local anaesthesia where it is required; removal of decayed or damaged tissue; isolation of the tooth to keep it dry; placement of the composite in layers; curing; shaping and polishing; and a check of your bite.

If treatment must be continued, the dentist may place a temporary filling to protect the tooth until the next visit. A temporary filling is not a final restoration. If a deep cavity needs additional protection, a therapeutic liner may be used under the filling. For a short overview of what we offer, see “Treatment options in Lutsk”.

How to compare filling costs in Lutsk

When you ask for estimates, compare the same scope. Check whether the examination, anaesthesia, any X-rays, a rubber dam and the filling itself are included, and whether the price depends on the number of surfaces or on restoring contact points between teeth. Our price list in UAH shows these items separately: “View prices in UAH”.

If decay turns out to be deeper than expected, the plan and the cost can change; see “Tooth decay treatment” for how decay is staged, and “Lost or painful filling” if an existing filling has fallen out or hurts.

Planning dental treatment in Ukraine and comparing costs

For several planned fillings, compare a written estimate from Lutsk with equivalent treatment at home. A lower treatment fee does not necessarily offset travel for a single small filling.

Current prices: “View prices in UAH”. The final cost is confirmed after examination.

Travelling to Ukraine: check your government’s current travel advice before planning a trip.

Frequently asked questions

Composite is a commonly used tooth-coloured filling material. The two terms are often used interchangeably; ask the dentist which material is planned for your tooth.
A dentist needs to examine the tooth before recommending treatment. Some marks are staining or enamel changes, so a dental examination is the reliable way to tell.
Longevity varies with the tooth, restoration and care. A filling can last for years, but it is not permanent and should be checked at regular visits.
Clarify examination, anaesthesia, imaging where needed, and the filling. Asking for an itemised estimate helps you compare clinics fairly.
Choose Dentika or Filigranno in the appointment request. The request form lets you choose either clinic or ask for the first available slot.
